CULTIVATING A BETTER WORLD
THERE IS THE WORLD AS IT IS AND THE WORLD THAT WE WANT TO CREATE
It all started in my kitchen…well, if you can call that little space in my downtown Venice flat a real kitchen. I was on a mission to create something new, and different. Because as a long-time vegan, and even longer time vegetarian, I was fed up with the meat alternatives available.
Look, I have nothing against Portobello burgers. Portobello fajitas are one of my go-to’s. And I don’t find black bean burgers that offensive either. But sometimes you want something more than veggies. And my options were limited to heavily processed plant-based meats that I was supposed to be putting as my center of the plate. Caramel color? Natural flavors? Maltodextrin? Methylcellulose? No thanks.
What’s more – plant-based living is something that sits deep in my bones. I was constantly encouraging my friends, family, and who am I kidding, just about any stranger I crossed path with, to take some steps towards a plant-based lifestyle.
I wanted to create plant-based meats from only the highest quality ingredients available, bringing the “butcher shop” quality to meat alternatives. The meats had to have the right flavor, they had to cut across your teeth the way animal-protein does, and they had to have the right appeal. I wanted to create something that I could treat the same way as animal-based meat, but that had none of the harmful side effects for my body, for the planet, or of course, for the animals. And after endless hours, countless recipe rewrites, and invaluable feedback from my meat-eating friends and family, I created Abbot’s Butcher plant-based meats.
Going plant-based stems from a fundamental desire I have to cultivate something better. A kinder planet. A healthier world. A happier place for every living being. And Abbot’s Butcher is part of that mission. But a mission doesn’t come to fruition without action – and that’s why you are so incredible.
